NorWest  Newsletter - December 07

Hello to you all!  This is our final newsletter of the year before we break up for the summer.  Classes start again in February 2008.

NorWest Flygility Tournament
Our flygility tournament was held on 28 October - it was a damp start, but the day dried up later in the morning and the sun peeked out towards the end.  The success of the NorWesties is listed on the next page, but a special mention must go to Rosalind Walkington & Emma, for whom this was their first tournament - well done!
It was quite a small tournament in the end, with attendance from Counties (Pukekohe) and Rotorua, bringing the total number of competing dogs to just 33.
We have a number of people training on Wednesday night and it would have been great to see you there, trying your luck at the Elementary and Beginner courses.

NorWest Agility & Obedience Ribbon Trial
Our combined agility and obedience ribbon trial was held on 26 November and what a hot, sunny day it turned out to be.  First mention must got to the helpers who came and scribed, picked up poles, took the entries, wrote the scoreboard, stewarded for obedience and the myriad of tasks that are required to run the show.  Thank you so much for helping make the day run smoothly - we can’t do it without you!  Feedback received from other clubs was that our show ran well and people had a good time.
Lots of NorWest members came and competed on the day.  Congratulations must go to Maree Green and Ted who entered Elementary Obedience for the first time and scored first place!  Well Done!
The results are listed below and I’m proud to say I struggled to get them all onto the one page - Go NorWest!

A point to note in regard to dogs who leave the ring and approach the onlookers - should a dog approach you that is competing, then please just ignore the dog.  Do not shoo it back into the ring, as this constitutes double handling and the handler will be disqualified.

Kumeu Christmas Parade - 14 December
The annual Christmas Parade will be held on 14 December.  Come and join in with NorWest as we walk from Huapai to our club grounds - dress yourself and your dog up for the occasion and promote the message of “good training - good dogs” to the public.
Meet up at Nobilo’s winery (45 Station Road, Huapai) at 6.30pm at the latest, bearing in mind that the main road through Kumeu and Huapai will be closed to traffic shortly after.
To finish there will be fish and chips provided by the club, along with a sausage sizzle - bring the whole family!

NorWest Championship Show:
NorWest will be holding a triple agility championship show during the Auckland Anniversary weekend.
Once again, we will be looking for volunteers to help run this event.  If you would like to help out for two days or just two hours, please contact Joan McFarlane on 833 9053 to let her know when you are available.  All the jobs are relatively easy and full training can be given!

Omissions:

My apologies to Karen Smith, whose achievements I missed in the last newsletter.  Please email all clear rounds and placings to me, Diana, at ukmckay@slingshot.co.nz for inclusion in the newsletters.
